Development of an Improved Model for Piezo-Electric Driven Ink Jets

چکیده
Numerical modeling and experimentation are used at Xerox Office Group to design, optimize, and verify the fluid dynamic behavior of phase-change ink jets, including the individual jets in a print head. A typical model of an ink jet is based upon lumped-parameter (no spatial variation) assumptions. While quite accurately predicting the main Helmholz resonant frequency (a key performance measure), a lumped-parameter model does not predict other parasitic frequencies that occur in a typical ink jet. As printer performance improves by increasing the jetting frequency, understanding and controlling these other resonant frequencies becomes critical. This paper documents the improvement of an existing lumped-parameter model by incorporating one-dimensional transmission line elements which substantially increases the ability of the model to predict the frequency response of an ink jet. The first part of the paper describes the application of lumped-parameter elements and of transmission line theory to the modeling of ink jets. The existing lumped-parameter model and the improved model are then used to simulate a Xerox Phaser® 350 ink jet. The model predictions are compared with experimental data obtained with an impedance meter.

Using an Electric Differential (ED) in electric vehicle has many advantages such as flexibility and direct torque control of the wheels during cornering and risky maneuvers. Despite its reported successes and advantages, the ED has several problems limits its applicability, for instance, an increment of control loops and an increase of computational effort. In this paper, an electric differenti...

Due to their fast response, high accuracy and non-friction force, piezo-actuators have been widely employed in multiple degree-of-freedom (DOF) stages for various nano-positioning applications. The use of flexible hinges in these piezo-actuator-driven stages allows the elimination of the influence of friction and backlash clearance, as observed in other configurations; meanwhile it also causes ...

Piezoelectric actuators and sensors have been broadly used for design of smart structures over the last two decades. Different theoretical assumptions have been considered in order to model these structures by the researchers. In this paper, an enhanced piezolaminated sandwich beam finite element model is presented. The facing layers follow the Euler-Bernoulli assumption while the core layers a...

Delineation of potential sites for groundwater artificial recharge is an important and challenging task. The purpose of this research is to develop a new data-driven fuzzy approach to model potential sites for groundwater artificial recharge. To achieve this end, the efficient criteria of a proper site for groundwater artificial recharge were first recognized and presented as a conceptual model...
